Srinagar, Mar12: Following extensive consultations with multiple political parties in Srinagar, a 9-member delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI) convened another crucial session with officials from the police and civil administration. The discussions centered around the preparedness for the upcoming general elections to the LokSabha, with a primary emphasis on ensuring the security and safety of citizens.
Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police were provided with comprehensive briefings regarding the imminent general elections in the region. The objective was to equip local authorities with a thorough understanding and readiness for the electoral process.
A senior official from the Jammu and Kashmir government, speaking to Rising Kashmir, highlighted the delegation’s focus on poll preparedness and security during their comprehensive talks with police and civil administration officials. The overarching goal was to obtain firsthand insights into the ground realities.
“The paramount focus remains on safeguarding the residents’ safety and security throughout the forthcoming LokSabha polls. Efforts are directed towards streamlining the electoral procedures and fostering an environment conducive to peaceful and secure voting,” the official stated.
Discussions during the meeting delved into identifying areas of concern and vulnerability, with an emphasis on promptly addressing any potential threats posed by anti-national elements or suspicious individuals once the election dates are announced. A proactive approach was underscored as essential for ensuring a secure electoral process.
Meanwhile, P K Pole, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, informed Rising Kashmir that both rounds of meetings had concluded, with the ECI delegation scheduled to proceed to Jammu on Wednesday. Following engagements with political stakeholders and law enforcement authorities, a brief press conference is slated to be held in Jammu.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar inaugurated the SVEEP Rally (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) as part of the ongoing initiatives aimed at promoting voter awareness and engagement, particularly among the youth. This was followed by discussions with representatives from various political parties in anticipation of the upcoming LokSabha elections, along with a second meeting with Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from the Kashmir division.
