Srinagar, Aug 10: Ahead of Independence Day and Tiranga Rally celebrations, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone V.K. Birdi reviewed security arrangements during a meeting held at the Police Control Room in Srinagar on Saturday. He emphasized the need for strict vigilance to thwart any potential terror attacks.
During the meeting, IGP Birdi received reports from officers on the security measures and deployment plans in place for the smooth conduct of the upcoming events. He discussed in detail the necessary arrangements, directing officers to ensure all preparations are completed in a timely manner.
Emerging security challenges and countermeasures were thoroughly examined, with a focus on enhancing checkpoints, particularly at night, and maintaining strict vigilance on elements threatening peace.
IGP Birdi emphasised the importance of 24×7 special checkpoints at vulnerable locations and key entry and exit points in the city.
Officers were also directed to enhance night patrols in vulnerable areas and to ensure the smooth and fair execution of the events. The IGP underscored the need for a joint mechanism across different levels to maintain security.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from various security forces, including IG CRPF, IG BSF, IGP Traffic J&K, DD IB, DIG Armed Kashmir, and other key officers.
Earlier, on August 7, IGP Birdi had called for enthusiastic participation in the Tiranga Rally and Independence Day celebrations to ensure their successful conduct.
