Srinagar, May 02: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Tuesday stressed upon the officials for the need to remainvigilant and take preventive measures to avoid any untoward incidents during the upcoming G20 summit in Kashmir. He also suggested that additional security measures be put in place in susceptible areas to avert any unfortunate incidents during the G20 conference.
ADGP Kumar was speaking at a joint meeting with officers from the police, intelligence agencies, and security forces at the Police Control Room Kashmir Srinagar, where they discussed the overall security arrangements to be implemented for the safe and smooth conduct of the upcoming G-20 meeting in Srinagar.
While reviewing the security arrangements, he emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the summit’s safety. The authorities also addressed the deployment of security personnel, traffic management, and crowd control measures that would be implemented to ensure the summit’s peaceful conduct.
“All security agencies must work together to ensure the success of the summit, which is expected to attract several high-profile dignitaries from across the world,” ADGP Kumar added.
During the meeting, security personnel deployment, anti-drone measures, and other critical aspects of security planning were discussed. The ADGP urged officials to ensure that security arrangements are in place well before the summit, and that security personnel are deployed in a way that does not cause disruption to local people and tourists.
Special emphasis was placed on the rising threat of VBIEDs and other modalities of terror attacks, such as potential fidayeen attacks, standoff fire, and grenade attacks, as well as countermeasures to these terror threats.
Meanwhile, the third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting will be held between May 22-24 in Kashmir and preparations are underway to make the mega event successful in the Valley.
The Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), located on Dal Lake, will be the primary site for hosting the G20 meetings. Preparations for the upcoming meeting are in the final stages, and various arrangements such as multi-tier security and traffic diversions are also being planned.
During the meeting, ADGP Kumar stressed the importance of river and lake domination in ensuring the security of the summit. He also emphasized the need for the Marine Commandos (MARCOS) to be put in place to provide a strong security cover for the water bodies around the summit venues.
He also shared with all stakeholders that NSG team will be used for counter fidayeen attack along with SOG and specialise NSG teams for counter drone will be deployed at all venues.
The meeting was attended by GOC Kilo Force MajGen Mohit Seth , IG CRPF Kashmir Ops Sector Manvinder Singh Bhatia, IG BSF Kashmir Frontier Ashok Yadav, Joint Director SIB Shri Dipankar Trivedi, Commander 10 sector, Commander 03 sector, Commander 5 sector, DD SIB Srinagar, DIG of Police CKR Srinagar, DIG of Police NKR Baramulla, DIG CRPF North Srinagar, DIG CRPF South Srinagar, DIG CID Kashmir, CO 15 CISU, CO 31 CIU, SSP Srinagar, SSP Baramulla, SSP Budgam, Bandipora, SSP Ganderbal, SP Cargo, NSG officer, Rep of SB Srinagar.
Later ADGP Kumar instructed all districts SSPs to focus on busting of terror modules by apprehending terrorist associates & generate the preventive intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the valley.
“All SSPs were instructed to conduct anti-terrorist operations on specific inputs. The officials discussed the deployment of additional security forces and use of modern technology to secure the venues,” he said.
The attendees reviewed the current security arrangements in place and discussed possible ways to enhance the security measures to ensure the safety of all participants and attendees during the event.
Apart from the security measures, the meeting also discussed the management of foreign NGOs and media personnel during the summit.
GOC Kilo Force is assured to provide all assistance like domination of high reaches, corridor protection, additional AS Teams, area domination specifically in the night. ADGP Kashmir shared with all stakeholders that NSG team will be used for counter fidayeen attack along with SOG and specialise NSG teams for counter drone will be deployed at all venues.
The officials were also instructed to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies to gather information about any potential security threats and take necessary actions to neutralize them.
During the three-day G20 Summit, discussions will take place in Srinagar, and the foreign delegates will have the opportunity to go sightseeing in Baramulla, Dachigam National Park, and the ski resort of Gulmarg,
