Pulwama, May 20: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the National Conference (NC) candidate for the Srinagar constituency, on Monday cast his vote at a polling station established inside Government Girls Higher Secondary School Budgam.
During this occasion, he was accompanied by NC vice president Omar Abdullah, who is the party’s candidate for the Baramulla constituency.
Speaking to the media, Ruhullah emphasised the importance of voter turnout in combating the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its policies. “Our contest is with the BJP, their proxies, and their policies. If people don’t turn up in high numbers to elect the right candidate, then we will be responsible for maintaining the status quo we have faced for the past ten years,” he said.
Ruhullah stressed the necessity for a large voter turnout to ensure that the electorate’s rights are upheld and the country’s future is secured.
“The contest is a collective fight for safeguarding the identity and existence of Jammu and Kashmir and it is of less importance which of their candidate is contesting from which constituency emphasising their unified struggle against the opponents,” he said.
The former MLA and minister from Shariat Abad Budgam expressed his happiness for the NC vice president casting his vote for him on May 13. “As a voter of Baramulla constituency it is prime responsibility to cast my vote to a right candidate,” he said, adding that from every aspect Omar Abdullah was the deserving candidate for his vote.
Ruhullah also appealed to voters to cast their vote for Omar Abdullah to make him successful.
The delimitation exercise has recently aligned a segment of Budgam district with the Baramulla constituency, adding a new dynamic to the voting process in the region.
