Srinagar, Apr 27: A civilian, identified as Ghulam Rasool Magray, was killed by unidentified terrorists in the Kani Khas area of Kupwara on Saturday night. Police officials said the gunmen stormed Magray’s home and opened fire, critically injuring him.
Magray, 44, was shot in the abdomen and wrist. He was initially treated at Handwara District Hospital before being referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have launched a major search operation, with a joint team from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and paramilitary forces cordoning off the area to track down the terrorists. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. Police are examining all angles and coordinating with local forces to identify the suspects.
On Friday, a brother of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander, who as per police was a terrorist associate, was killed in an encounter in Bandipora. Two security personnel were injured in the encounter, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Altaf Lali, brother of jailed Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Talib Lali. As the news of his death spread, protests erupted in Ajas with his family alleging that the encounter was fake, while authorities denied claims.
