After the gap of more than four years, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is expected to lead the congregational Friday prayers today at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that security outside Mirvaiz’s Nigeen residence has been lifted and now he is expected to lead Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid today at Nowhatta.
“In view of the development, additional security has been deployed in Nowhatta locality as a precautionary measure to thwart any misconduct outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid had been urging the government to release Umar Farooq from house detention and allow him to carry out his routine religious duties.
A senior member of Anjuman also confirmed that they were asked they Mirvaiz Umer has been released from the house detention and we communicated the same to Nigeen residence.
“He will likely lead congregational Friday prayers today at Jamia Masjid Srinagar. We are also making our arrangements for the same,” the official said.
