Srinagar, May 07: Following the three anti-terror operations in north Kashmir during the past one week, the security agencies are maintaining close vigil and various steps have been taken to foil any attempt aimed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the region, police said on Sunday.
A top police officer told Rising Kashmir that following three successful anti-terrorist operations from the past one week that left more than 5 terrorists dead, security officials have been asked to remain alert to foil any attempt aimed to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the region.
“We have identified some sensitive areas in north Kashmir. The deployment of forces is being doubled. Strict vigil is maintained and loopholes are being addressed on priority,” he said.
The police official said apart from that CCTV surveillance, nakas, and frisking points are in place. We have advised all the protected persons to inform local police while they intend to go on any visit.
“Ahead of the G20 meet, terrorists are trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley. The fear cycle is being generated through various underground agencies. The Over Ground Workers of terror outfits are being used to carry out soft targets across the Valley,” he said.
The police officer said the situation is under control and there is no need to panic. We are working on all leads to overcome this situation. Anti-terror operations will continue and soon OGWs behind recent killings would be arrested,” he said.
Over the past one week, north Kashmir witnessed three gunfights in which five terrorists had been killed.
On Saturday, a LeT terrorist was killed in a gunfight that broke out in Karhama Kunzar village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Two terrorists were killed during a gunfight between security forces and terrorists in Wanigam Payeen Kreeri of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.
Earlier on May 3, two terrorists were killed when an encounter took place after the security forces foiled an infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara district.
These encounters took place at a time when Kashmir is set to host the G20 meeting later this month. Security has been heightened across the Valley.
