Zanskar, Nov 05: Dr. Pawan Kotwal, the Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory Ladakh, embarked on a comprehensive tour of several villages in Zanskar and Kargil to assess ongoing developmental projects and address community concerns.
Accompanied by a team of officials including Deputy Commissioner/CEO of LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Suse, and others, the Advisor began his tour by visiting the renowned Monastery at Sani, Zanskar. During this visit, local religious leaders presented a memorandum of demands, to which the Advisor assured a follow-up.
Dr. Kotwal emphasized the importance of preserving historical manuscripts and protecting monastery heritage, noting its potential to enhance tourism in the region.
The Advisor also inspected various works, including the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Manda Zanskar, the Health and Wellness Centre in Abran, Zanskar, and a transmission tower location assessment in Pansila. He took a keen interest in the construction progress of the NH301 road.
At Parkachik Kargil, Dr. Kotwal oversaw the under-construction canal and urged prompt completion of pending tasks. He also visited the hydropower project in Taisuru, where local residents sought land compensation due to road widening. The Advisor instructed the Revenue Department to address this matter promptly.
A meeting chaired by Dr. Kotwal, involving officials from the Power Development Department, Revenue, and Rural Electrification Corporation Power Distribution Company Limited (RECPDCL), focused on issues related to the transmission line project. In the meeting, the Advisor urged officials to prioritize the interests of the people and explore alternatives to minimize property and land impacts.
Dr. Pawan Kotwal’s tour and active engagement with local communities reflect the administration’s commitment to the holistic development of Zanskar and Kargil, while ensuring the preservation of their rich cultural and historical heritage.
