Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar on Saturday maintained that Blood is a precious therapeutic modality as it is obtained from human source and cannot be manufactured.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Bhatnagar said that Blood is a precious therapeutic modality since it is obtained from human source and cannot be manufactured and a human being can only donate blood for another human being. He added that besides being a commitment towards society, blood donation gives a feeling of immense satisfaction to the donor. The Advisor remarked that Voluntary blood donation motivated solely by humanitarian considerations is undoubtedly the safest and most effective way of providing blood of assured quality.

The Advisor also said that the aim behind organising these camps is to overcome shortage of blood in all blood banks so that no one can face problem in getting blood whenever required.

The Blood Donation Camp was organised as part of the Rakhtdan Amrit Mahotsav, a Mega Blood Donation drive being organised across Jammu and Kashmir from today till 1st October, 2022.

Similarly, Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department, Bhupinder Kumar inaugurated blood donation camp at GMC Jammu in presence of MD, NHM Ayushi Sudan and Principal GMC, Jammu Dr Shahsi Sudan Sharma.

After inaugurating the camp, the Secretary emphasised that Voluntary blood donation is undoubtedly, the highest form of humanitarian service as it is done without expectation of even knowing who it will help. He added that one single blood donation actually helps many patients as blood is usually segregated into RBC’s, Platelets, WBC’s and Plasma and given accordingly for their requirement.

Under the drive, Director General Family Welfare/Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Saleem Ul Rehman inaugurated the blood donation camp at Govt. Gandhi Nagar, Hospital, Jammu while as Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather along with Dr Mohammad Shafi Koka, State Nodal Officer, NHM, J&K inaugurated Blood Donation Camp at JLNM Hospital Srinagar.

During this drive various NGOs and Social organisations participated for noble cause and around 80 blood donation camps were held today involving all blood banks of Health Institutions of J&K. An estimated number of more than 1500 blood points were collected during this drive which is definitely going to improve the availability and quality of blood.

Notably, an efficient and effective National blood system mandates universal and timely access to safe blood and in order to achieve the same MoHFW, GoI had proposed to organize Mega Blood Donation camps across the country in all Medical Colleges, District Hospital, Blood banks. The Mega drive of voluntary blood donation started from 17th September to 1st October 2022 which is National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
