Rajouri, Apr 06: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Vikas Kundal on Thursday informed the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Mukesh Singh that the district administration in conjunction with the police administration is leaving no stone unturned in eradicating the scourge of drug abuse.
The DC said numerous measures have been implemented to rehabilitate drug addicts. “As a means of curbing the sale of prescription drugs, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are being installed in chemists and pharmacies. Furthermore, monthly meetings of the National Coordination and Response Mechanism on Drugs (NCORD) are being convened regularly,” he revealed.
The ADGP Jammu visited the Drug De-Addiction Centre in Rajouri to inspect the facilities available for clients. The visit highlighted the crucial role of such facilities in the fight against drug addiction in the district.
During his visit, the ADGP interacted with the staff and clients at the centre and inquired about the facilities available to them. He emphasised the need for regular counselling and medical checkups to ensure that clients receive effective treatment. He also assured the staff of the centre of full support in their efforts to provide quality care to clients.
Singh discussed the challenges of drug addiction and strategies to address them during his visit. He emphasised the need to increase awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction and to encourage youth to adopt healthy lifestyles. He assured the clients of the government’s support in their rehabilitation and recovery process. He encouraged clients not to hesitate to seek help if they are struggling with addiction.
On the occasion, the DC informed that to educate parents on the detrimental consequences of drug abuse and prevent their children from falling prey to it, dedicated anti-drug squads have been established at the school level. “During monthly parent-teacher meetings in schools, special emphasis will be placed on drug abuse. In the past, special gram sabhas have also been organised to disseminate information to the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse,” he said.
