Kulgam, Nov 02: The administration in Kulgam on Saturday extended immediate relief to families affected by a fire incident in Daderkoot.
The fire, which broke out in the said village, left multiple families facing severe damage to their homes and belongings.
An official said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, visited the site to assess the situation and personally extend support to the victims. Expressing his sympathy, the DC assured the affected families that comprehensive assistance would be provided by the district administration.
“As an immediate measure, a cheque of Rs 50,000 was distributed to each affected family from the Red Cross fund. Besides, Rs 1.20 lakh has been sanctioned for each residential house under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF),” the official said.
DC Kulgam said that fire incidents increase during the dry season when leaves, grass, and other vegetation dry out, and residents begin using heating gadgets. He urged the people of Kulgam to remain vigilant and to regularly check heating appliances, wiring, and traditional kangris (fire pots) to prevent accidental fires.
“We have set up a system to ensure that, wherever such incidents occur, our teams reach the site within hours to provide essential relief items, including blankets and food, through SDRF and Red Cross resources,” he said.
The DC also urged the residents to stay alert and to make use of the district’s emergency control room for prompt assistance. The helpline numbers are 9103424365 and 01931-295900.
