Jammu, Dec 29: Jammu and Kashmir is facing acute shortage of booster doses amid a threat of another spike in Covid cases.
Director General Health and Family Welfare (H&FW), Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman, when contacted said that booster doses across J&K have gone out of stock since the past few days.
“Yes, the precautionary dose is not available in the entire Union Territory (UT) of J&K,” Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman told Rising Kashmir adding, “We have sent our requisition to the union health ministry for approving precautionary doses at an earliest”.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, in a high level meeting with the health experts a few days back, had emphasised upon all the officers to administer the booster dose to the vulnerable groups like elderly besides assessing all the facilities afresh so that their operational readiness is checked.
A countywide mock drill including in J&K was also conducted to assess the preparedness in case of the anticipated 4th wave of Covid-19.
Pertinently, a little over 17% people have so far been administered the booster dose here in J&K as per the official figures of Cowin Portal.
