Accused held for sexual molestation of minor in B’la

Baramulla, Jun 14: Police on Wednesday arrested an accused involved in sexual molestation of a minor in Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. 
A police official said that the accused was taken into custody immediately after a person lodged a written complaint. 
Police said that a person in a complaint stated that on June 12, 2023 his minor son (name withheld) aged about 6 years old was sexually molested by someone. 
“The accused had threatened the victim for not disclosing the incident to anyone due to which the family did not report to the Police Station,” the written complaint reads. 
Police said that to this effect a case FIR under sections of IPC & The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered in Police Station Kreeri and investigation started.
“During investigation after strenuous efforts,  the accused was identified as Hashim Tariq  Zargar son of Tariq Ahmad Zargar, a resident of Sultanpora Kandi,” police said. 
“The accused, according to police, is staying at Kreeri at present.” 
Police said that acting swiftly, the Police team led by SI Ehsan Ahmad, Offg. SHO PS Kreeri under the supervision of Sh. Khalid Ashraf-JKPS, SDPO Kreeri arrested the accused involved in the crime. 
“The accused was taken into custody immediately. Further investigation is in process,” he added.  
The police official said that Baramulla police are committed to public safety. 
“Citizens are requested to come forward with all such grievances and we assure them that their safety and security will be ensured at all cost,” Baramulla police said.
