Jammu, Apr 08: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case against a police official in Jammu for demanding and accepting a bribe.
The ACB in a statement said it filed a charge sheet in case FIR No. 03/2023 P/S ACB-Jammu under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Mohd Sultan, who was serving as a Sgct. and posted as Munshi at Police Post Chinore, Jammu.
The case, according to the statement, originated from a complaint alleging that Mohd Sultan demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 for releasing the complainant’s son from police custody. In response to the complaint, the ACB conducted a trap operation. Mohd Sultan, while serving as Munshi at Police Post Chinore, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount. The bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses.
Following the completion of the investigation and obtaining sanction for prosecution from the competent authority, the charge-sheet was produced before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu for judicial determination. The next date of hearing in the case is scheduled for April 23, 2024.
