Ganderbal, Feb 06 – The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar has arrested an MIS computer operator at the Block Development Office (BDO) Gund in Ganderbal district while he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.
According to ACB sources, a complainant had lodged a written grievance at the ACB office in Pir Bagh on November 24. The complainant alleged that he had completed Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) work worth Rs 1 lakh, but to get his payment released, he was asked to pay a Rs 10,000 bribe by the concerned operator.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf Malik, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik, a resident of Badrgund, Ganderbal. Acting on the complaint, the ACB set a trap and apprehended Malik while he was taking ₹3,000 from the complainant.
During the operation, the ACB also seized a computer and a printer from the accused’s possession. A formal case has been registered under FIR No. 3/2025, and further investigation is underway.
Local residents have welcomed the ACB’s action and urged authorities to continue their crackdown on corrupt officials.
