Awantipora, Aug 12: International Youth Day, Recreational and Sports Events organized to observe Aazadi ka Amrit Mohatsav at IUST on Friday.
A series of events were organized at the Islamic University of Science and Technology today to observe the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The events included Sports and Recreational activities for employees, celebration of International Youth Day and Film Screening Session.
The sports and recreational program was organized by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with Srinagar Unit of Reliance Group, wherein multiple events were organized that included cricket, football, athletics, and other recreational activities.
The program organized under the University outreach initiative was inaugurated by Prof. Nasser Iqbal, Registrar IUST. Appreciating the relevance of such activities, Prof. Iqbal said,
“The burden of maintaining a work-life balance in the modern world is becoming increasingly more challenging. So, conducting such events for our employees becomes mandatory”. The team of employees from Reliance Group led by Mr. Khalid Mehraj enthusiastically participated in the program. “With its world-class sports infrastructure, the University is dedicated to making a significant contribution in improving health standards of the youth”, said Dr. Hilal Ahmed Rather, Assistant Director, Physical Education and Sports at IUST. The program to celebrate International Youth Day on the theme “Intergenerational Solidarity: creating a world for all ages” was organized by Syed Mantaqui Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology. The aim of the program was to increase awareness about the theme and strengthen the trust of youth in public institutions and enable them to become accountable stakeholders in decision-making and policy design in the country. Speaking on the theme of the program, Ms. Asmat Parveen, Principal said, “Youth day focuses on tweens and teens. Their role is not only to work towards protection of vulnerable communities but also to promote intergenerational relations”. Sensitizing the nurses of the college about the sustainable development goals laid down by the United Nations she said, “The contribution of nurses in achieving Mission 2030 is very crucial as the mission of Good Health for All cannot be achieved without their active involvement”. Besides lectures, speech competitions, poster making, calligraphy competitions were also held during this program. A documentary screening event on the Indian National Movement was also organized by Dean of Students wherein students, staff, and faculty of the university participated. The event coordinated by Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat, Head Department of Journalism and Mass Communication was aimed to make the people aware of the contributions made by freedom fighters in the freedom struggle of the country.
