Jammu, Jul 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh on Tuesday accused Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo, Arvind Kejriwal, of misleading Punjab’s farmers with half-baked assurances on the controversial Land Pooling Policy.Chugh, in a statement issued here, cautioned farmers not to be swayed by the “superficial changes”. “This policy is meant to trap our farmers in a bureaucratic web where their rights and future remain at the mercy of the state government,” he said. The financial benefits being promised, Rs 1 lakh annually or a 200 sq yard SCO, are nothing but crumbs compared to the true value of the land, the BJP leader said, adding, “As the saying goes, “a drop in the ocean”, too little, too late.”Chugh added that there are still glaring loopholes in the scheme. “The so-called consent cheque of Rs 50,000 is a tactical bribe to push farmers into surrendering their land without any guaranteed long-term benefit,” he said.”This is just another episode in Kejriwal and Mann’s pattern of betrayal, using misleading schemes to cover up policy failures,” Chugh said. The BJP, he asserted, will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Punjab’s farmers and fight against any attempt to loot their land under the guise of development.
