Srinagar, Aug 11: Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina conducted a One Day Seminar on Yoga Philosophy. The seminar, themed Yoga Philosophy: An Interplay of Mind, Body and Spirit, started at 11 am in the auditorium of the college.
The Principal of the college Prof (Dr) Yasmeen Farooq received the guests and thanked them for gracing the occasion. In her welcome address she said, “Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind. It is the new global trend in this stress-prone world”. She briefed the audience about how mind, body and spirit dovetail and create a lasting peace in individuals.
The Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University Srinagar, Prof (Dr) Mohammad Mobin, was the guest of honour on the occasion. Speaking on the event, he said that Yoga was a stress buster especially in today’s fast paced world”. He said during his visits abroad he was surprised to see people knowing more about yoga than someone from the country where it took birth.
The chief Resource Person of the event, Prof. Md. Mehrajuddin, Head Department of Sanskrit, University of Kashmir highlighted the importance of yoga and cleared how, as per the Sanskrit classics, yoga was an age-old perennial philosophy of the Indian civilization rather than a new thing.
Earlier Vice Chancellor of the Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Haryana Prof. Raj Nehru spoke to the delegates of the seminar through online mode wherein he congratulated the college for having conducted a seminar of such ilk. He said yoga was fast becoming a popular trend which relieves us of stress, anxiety and mental burdens.
The seminar was attended by a large number of students and faculty from different colleges. Principal SP College Prof. Ghulam Jeelani Qureshi, Dr Jaleel Ahsan and others were present during the proceedings of the seminar. A novel titled Steel Road authored by a student of the college was also released on the occasion.
14th June is celebrated as International Yoga Day every year since 2014 as designated by UNESCO.
