Jammu, Feb 01: In a significant address on the Union Budget 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the budget as a monumental step in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of 140 crore Indians. Describing the budget as a “People’s Budget,” the PM emphasized its potential to empower citizens and accelerate India’s growth journey. He congratulated Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her team for crafting a budget that would drive savings, investment, consumption, and ultimately, rapid economic growth.
PM Modi stressed that unlike traditional budgets that focus on government finances, this budget prioritizes the well-being of the common man. “This budget lays a strong foundation for how the pockets of citizens will be filled, how their savings will grow, and how they will become active partners in India’s development,” he remarked.
A key theme of the speech was the significant reforms aimed at creating job opportunities and fostering economic progress across multiple sectors. The PM highlighted the decision to grant infrastructure status to shipbuilding in India, which is expected to boost the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and create substantial employment opportunities. Similarly, he underscored the historic move to promote the private sector’s involvement in nuclear energy, positioning it as a pivotal contributor to the country’s growth in the coming years.
Tourism was another sector that received special attention in the budget. For the first time, hotels built at 50 major tourist destinations will be classified under infrastructure, a move that aims to boost the hospitality industry and generate jobs in tourism—a sector that the PM noted is one of the largest sources of employment.
The PM also highlighted the launch of the Gyan Bharat Mission, which aims to preserve one crore manuscripts and create a National Digital Repository inspired by India’s traditional knowledge. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to blending heritage with modern technology for the preservation of India’s rich history.
In terms of support for the agricultural sector, the budget promises significant investments under the PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana, which will focus on irrigation and infrastructure development in 100 districts. Additionally, the increased Kisan Credit Card limit to Rs 5 lakh is expected to provide more financial security to farmers.
On the tax front, PM Modi welcomed the announcement that income up to Rs 12 lakh will be exempt from tax, a move he believed would provide significant relief to the middle class and fixed-income earners. This tax exemption, he explained, would create more opportunities for people entering new professions and jobs.
A strong emphasis was also placed on fostering the growth of entrepreneurship and supporting MSMEs. The budget includes provisions for a loan scheme of up to Rs 2 crore for SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs without the need for guarantees, alongside an increase in the credit guarantee for MSMEs and startups.
The PM also celebrated the inclusion of gig workers in the e-shram portal for the first time, enabling them to access healthcare and social security benefits, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring dignity in labor.
In his concluding remarks, PM Modi underscored the budget’s forward-looking approach, citing investments in deep tech, geospatial missions, and nuclear energy, alongside reforms designed to strengthen governance and create a competitive environment for investment across states. He reaffirmed that this budget addresses both the current needs of the country and its future aspirations, positioning India to thrive in the coming years.
With the unveiling of this historic budget, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that India is poised for a brighter and more prosperous future.
“A step towards Viksit Bharat”, says PM Modi on Budget 2025
