Srinagar, Apr 14: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Liyaqat Ali, on Tuesday said that his primary focus after assuming charge is familiarization and improving traffic management across the region.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to the Zojila axis, SSP Liyaqat Ali stated that this was the first area he reviewed after taking over his responsibilities. “My main focus is on understanding the areas under my jurisdiction. Zojila is the first location I have inspected,” he said.
Earlier, the SSP visited Sonamarg, Baltal, and Zero Point Zojila Pass to assess the road conditions and traffic scenario. This marked his first field visit since assuming office.
Highlighting the challenges, he noted that the road infrastructure in Kashmir is not keeping pace with the increasing number of vehicles.
“Our roads are not as developed as the volume of vehicles, but we will make every effort to manage traffic effectively across major towns and highways in the Kashmir province,” he added.
SSP Liyaqat Ali urged the general public to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid unnecessary congestion. “People should not park their vehicles on roads and must use designated parking areas, especially along the Zojila route,” he said.
He also advised commuters to follow official traffic advisories before traveling. “Citizens should check advisories issued by the traffic department on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and plan their travel accordingly,” he said, adding that travelers should contact traffic units in advance if unsure about movement days.
Referring to the traffic system on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) road, he said that the one-way traffic regulation towards Kargil and Leh plays a crucial role in managing congestion. “Traffic movement is regulated as per advisories, and vehicles are allowed to move at designated times, usually from 10:30 am,” he said.
The SSP reiterated his commitment to improving traffic flow and ensuring safer travel across the region, while seeking cooperation from the public in maintaining discipline on roads.
