LG directs zero tolerance against drug smugglers, OGWs

Chairs high-level security review meet Reviews Amarnath Yatra, other pilgrimages CS, DGP, DCs, SSPs brief LG on law & order

Jammu, Apr 29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security scenario, progress on Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, and district-wise preparations for forthcoming pilgrimages, directing Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to ensure seamless coordination between police, civil administration, and security forces.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Special DG Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP CID Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep Bhandari, Commissioner Secretary Health M Raju, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Sarmad Hafeez, Commissioner Secretary School Education Ram Niwas Sharma, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, IGP Jammu, DIGs, Deputy Commissioners, and SSPs from the Jammu Division.

Deputy Commissioners and SSPs apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the law and order and security scenario in their respective districts, along with progress on the 100-day campaign of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan and preparations for pilgrimages, including Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Shri Kausar Nag Yatra, and Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The Lieutenant Governor directed outcome-based efforts with a whole-of-society approach for fighting the drug menace, calling for stringent action against drug smugglers and peddlers in coordination with all stakeholders. He called for identifying narco-corridors in the Jammu Division to dismantle hotspots and networks operating in those areas completely, and stressed the need to conduct a study on region-wise substance abuse trends and a Vulnerability Index using WHO's standard methodology.

Sinha issued a firm directive to fortify the security grid through unwavering coordination among all security forces, ensuring a seamless and impenetrable shield against emerging threats. He directed the strictest possible action against individuals and overground workers (OGWs) harbouring terrorists, vowing zero tolerance for those who shelter threats to national security.

With respect to arrangements for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 and other upcoming pilgrimages in the Jammu division, the Lieutenant Governor directed DCs and SSPs to conduct a comprehensive review in their respective districts.

The Lieutenant Governor further directed DCs to drive seamless execution of the Vibrant Villages Programme to deliver rural health, development, economic transformation, and social upliftment, and to mandate 100 per cent screening for non-communicable diseases. He also asked for conducting Block and Thana Diwas regularly for resolving general grievances of the public.
