J&K sees fluctuated pattern in allocation, release of funds in 5 years

Mission aims to boost domestic oilseed production, cut imports

Srinagar, May 29: Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a fluctuating pattern in allocation and release of funds under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) over the past five years, with the Union Territory receiving Rs 12.28 crore allocation for 2025-26, the highest during the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

According to the annual report by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Jammu and Kashmir received an allocation of Rs 2.49 crore during 2021-22, against which Rs 0.81 crore was released. In 2022-23, the allocation stood at Rs 2.17 crore, but no funds were released during the year.

For 2023-24, J&K was allocated Rs 1.90 crore and received Rs 0.48 crore. During 2024-25, the allocation increased to Rs 3.43 crore, while the release stood at Rs 0.85 crore.

For the current financial year 2025-26, the allocation for Jammu and Kashmir has been significantly enhanced to Rs 12.28 crore, while Rs 1.56 crore has been released so far under the scheme.

The data forms part of the Centre’s broader expenditure under the National Mission on Edible Oils. Official documents reveal that under the Edible Oil–Oilseeds component, the Government of India released Rs 676.23 crore during 2024-25 against a revised allocation of Rs 630.78 crore for implementation in states and central agencies.

Similarly, under the Edible Oil–Oil Palm component, Rs 459.69 crore was released against a budgetary allocation of Rs 1000 crore during the same period.

For 2025-26, the Budget Estimate under NMEO-OS has been fixed at Rs 745.03 crore, while Rs 624.64 crore has already been released. Under NMEO-Oil Palm, the Budget Estimate stands at Rs 802.95 crore, with Rs 750.18 crore released so far.

Officials said the mission aims to boost domestic oilseed production, reduce dependence on edible oil imports and encourage cultivation support across states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir.
