Srinagar, May 22: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess preparedness for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha celebrations and the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY).

According to officials, the meeting focused on security deployment, traffic regulation, crowd management, surveillance mechanisms, and logistical arrangements across Kashmir Valley ahead of the major religious events.

During the meeting, district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) briefed the IGP on preparedness plans, including deployment strategies at major mosques, congregation sites, vulnerable locations, and along the Amarnath Yatra routes.

Emphasizing the importance of peaceful Eid celebrations, Birdi directed officers to strengthen crowd management measures at mosques and Eidgahs to ensure smooth movement of worshippers and prevent overcrowding. He instructed officials to maintain strict vigil at sensitive locations and enhance patrolling across districts during the festive period.

The IGP also called for intensified surveillance and random checking at vulnerable points to counter any potential security threats.

Reviewing arrangements for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Birdi stressed the need for coordinated planning among all security and civil agencies to ensure the safety of pilgrims. He directed officers to deploy anti-sabotage teams along both pilgrimage routes and strengthen monitoring through advanced surveillance systems and real-time threat assessment mechanisms.

Officials said the IGP also reviewed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to the Yatra and emphasized the importance of contingency planning to tackle emergencies or unforeseen situations effectively.

The meeting concluded with officials reiterating their commitment to ensuring a secure environment for residents, pilgrims, and visitors during Eid-ul-Adha and the annual pilgrimage.

Senior officers from Kashmir Police, Traffic Police, CID, SDRF, Armed Police, Telecom, Security Wing, and other departments attended the meeting.
