Srinagar, May 20: Following the Centre’s austerity measures and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s earlier appeal for optimal use of resources, the Central University of Kashmir has announced online classes and Work From Home arrangements on Fridays and Green Saturdays.
An official order issued by the university administration stated that the decision was taken after recommendations made during the Dean’s Committee meeting held on May 13 under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor.
The order said that with effect from May 22, 2026, the university will observe online teaching and Work From Home for both teaching and non teaching staff on Fridays and Green Saturdays as part of austerity measures.
The administration clarified that the move is aimed at ensuring continuity of academic activities while reducing operational expenditure and promoting energy conservation.
As per the order, all practical and laboratory classes scheduled on Fridays will be shifted to Thursday afternoons to avoid disruption in academic work.
The university has also directed that departmental and school level meetings, including PhD vivas and workshops, should preferably be conducted through online mode. However, offline meetings may be permitted in unavoidable situations with prior approval from the competent authority.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier appealed to institutions and government bodies across the country to adopt austerity measures, reduce unnecessary expenditure and encourage efficient digital functioning without affecting essential services.
