Srinagar, July 19: In a move to digitise and streamline medico-legal case (MLC) procedures, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar has issued a directive mandating all doctors associated with private hospitals and nursing homes in the district to register themselves on the MedLeaPR Portal. The decision, taken in accordance with instructions from higher authorities, aims to shift from the traditional manual system to a digital platform, enhancing transparency, accuracy and speed in the handling of medico-legal documentation.“All Medico-Legal Cases must henceforth be processed through the MedLeaPR Portal,” the CMO’s order reads, explicitly stating that manual submission of MLCs will no longer be permissible. The CMO has instructed all practising and visiting doctors at private healthcare facilities to complete their registration on the portal without delay. Officials have confirmed that a separate notification regarding training for the portal’s use will be issued shortly to facilitate a smooth transition to the new system. Importantly, the directive places the onus of compliance on the administrators and heads of institutions, holding them accountable for any lapses on the part of their staff. The decision is expected to ensure uniformity in MLC processing while minimising delays and the risk of procedural errors or tampering. Authorities believe the MedLeaPR system will help maintain a centralised, tamper-proof record of medico-legal documentation—crucial in legal, forensic, and investigative contexts. Notably, the government had last year circulated a list of healthcare facilities along with designated nodal officers, including their contact information, to aid the rollout of the MedLeaPR system.
