New Delhi/Leh, June 25: More than 65 students from the Union Territory of Ladakh have been evacuated from Iran as part of the Government of India’s special mission, ‘Operation Sindhu’. The evacuation follows growing tensions in the West Asian region.

The mission was carried out with the collaborative efforts of the Indian Embassy in Iran, the Ministry of External Affairs, the Iranian government, and the UT Ladakh administration. The students, many of whom were pursuing higher education in Iran, were brought back amid growing security concerns in the region.

Upon arrival in India, a majority of the students were received at Ladakh Bhawan in New Delhi, where temporary accommodations and logistical support were arranged. Several students have already begun their return journey to Ladakh, travelling along with fellow students from the Jammu and Kashmir region. The evacuated students expressed deep gratitude to the Government of India, the Ladakh administration, and all authorities involved for ensuring their safe repatriation. They praised the timely intervention and the well-organized facilities provided during both their evacuation and onward travel. Officials stated that the Government remains committed to the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad, especially in regions witnessing instability. Operation Sindhu is part of India’s broader strategy to ensure the secure return of its nationals during crises overseas.
