Ramban, May 19: One person lost his life and 25 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus overturned near Chandail Morh in the Sangaldan area of Ramban on Tuesday, officials said.
According to officials, the 54-seater bus bearing registration number JK02CU-7482 was travelling from Dharam to Ramban when the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp curve, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and turn turtle.
The deceased was identified as Anshu Singh (25), son of Kuldeep Singh and a resident of Pangata Khalsa in Udhampur.Officials said all injured passengers were shifted to the Primary Health Centre Sangaldan for treatment.
Medical authorities stated that the injured are in stable condition and out of danger.Among those injured are the driver, Rakesh Singh, along with passengers from Dharam, Dalwah, Thatharka, Jamlal, Kohli, Banihal and adjoining areas, officials said.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety on the mountainous stretches of the Jammu-Srinagar route, where sharp bends and difficult terrain frequently pose challenges for commuters and drivers alike.
