Srinagar, May 18: The commemorative events marking the 36th martyrdom anniversary of noted religious and political leader Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq (RA) commenced Today with a grand Husn-i-Qira’at programme at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar.

Organised by Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar, the spiritually significant event witnessed participation from students representing dozens of Islamic seminaries and educational institutions from across Kashmir, who showcased their excellence in the recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

Participating institutions included Dar-ul-Uloom Bilalia, Dar-ul-Uloom Dawoodia, Dar-ul-Uloom Qasmia, Jamia Saadat-ul-Quran, Islamia Oriental College, Dar-ul-Uloom Naqshbandia, Bab-ul-Uloom, Jamia Amir-e-Kabeer, Jamia Imam Azam, Dar-ul-Uloom Furqania, Maktaba Abu Bakr Siddiq, Dar-ul-Uloom Kausaria, Jamia Shams-ul-Uloom, Madrasa Sabeel-ul-Huda, Madrasa Siraj-ul-Uloom and Dar-ul-Uloom Dawood Batmaloo Srinagar, among others.

In the competition, Qari Athar Manzoor of Jamia Imam Azam Sarnal Anantnag secured the first position, followed by Qari Yasir Rashid of Siraj-ul-Uloom Srinagar in second place and Qari Muhammad Usman of Dar-ul-Uloom Qasmia in third. Qari Ubaid-ur-Rehman of Dar-ul-Uloom Bilalia and Qari Muhammad Abu Bakr of Bab-ul-Uloom Natipora Srinagar secured the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The winners were felicitated with trophies and cash prizes by the organisers, while participants received appreciation from scholars and attendees for their performances.

Addressing the gathering, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq highlighted the importance of the Holy Qur’an and emphasised the need for such programmes to strengthen the younger generation’s connection with the teachings and message of Islam.

He also appreciated the role of religious seminaries and Islamic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir for their contribution towards promoting Qur’anic education and preserving religious learning.

The competition was adjudged by Qari Saddam Hussain, Qari Ashiq Hussain and Qari Atiq-ur-Rehman.

Several prominent religious scholars and dignitaries attended the programme, including Maulana Shaukat Hussain Keng, Mufti Ejaz-ul-Hasan Qasmi Bandy, Mufti Nizamuddin Nadwi, Maulana Qari Muhammad Aslam Rahimi, Maulana Fayaz Ahmad Qasmi, Maulana Ghulam Rasool, Mufti Ghulam Rasool Samoon, Qari Naseer Ahmad Rahimi, Haji Altaf Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi and Maulana M.S. Rehman Shams.

A large number of citizens, including women participants, were also present at the gathering.

The programme concluded with collective Fateha prayers for Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) and other martyrs. Earlier in the day, Qur’an Khwani sessions were organised for Isaal-e-Sawab and prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the departed leader and other martyrs.
