Srinagar, May 17: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday urged every household in Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the Census 2027 self-enumeration initiative, calling it a crucial step for effective governance and planning.

In a post on x , the Lieutenant Governor said the ongoing phase covers house listing and housing operations, and encouraged citizens to personally furnish accurate details.

“This phase covers house listing and housing operations. I urge every household in J&K to personally provide their details and take part in the Census,”

Sinha said.Earlier, addressing residents, he emphasized the importance of the census exercise for individuals, the Union Territory, and the country as a whole.

“I would like to urge all citizens of Jammu and Kashmir that the census is of vital importance for you, for Jammu and Kashmir, and for the country. I request you all to participate in this with great enthusiasm,” he said.

He further appealed for complete and accurate disclosure of household information, including the number of family members residing in each home, to designated census officials.

“I am confident that you will all extend your full cooperation in this matter,” he added.The census exercise, conducted periodically across India, forms the basis for policymaking, resource allocation, and implementation of welfare schemes.

Authorities say accurate participation is essential for ensuring equitable development and effective delivery of government services.

Officials in the Union Territory are expected to scale up awareness and outreach efforts to encourage widespread participation in both rural and urban areas.
