Srinagar, May 10:
Ninety-eight persons aged above 85 or with over 50 percent disability are set to exercise their voting rights through home voting facilities in Handwara’s assembly segment (5) from May 14th to 16th.
Speaking at a press conference in Handwara, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aziz Ahmad expressed readiness for the forthcoming democratic event, emphasizing the deployment of 117 polling stations in the Handwara assembly constituency. Notably, one pink polling station and several unique polling stations have been established to enhance voter engagement.
Among these unique polling stations, Hatchmargi in Ramahal stands out for its tomato trade, reaching numerous states across the country. Another distinctive station, Hangikoot, exclusively caters to 700 Scheduled Tribe voters. ADC Ahmad reaffirmed the commitment to facilitating persons with disabilities and the elderly, ensuring their seamless participation in the electoral process, with provisions for home voting and dedicated ballot boxes.
In a bid to uphold transparency, each polling station will be equipped with two CCTV cameras to monitor proceedings closely. Emphasising compliance with election guidelines, ADC Ahmad sternly warned against political parties’ infringement on government buildings with flags and banners, citing past violations and subsequent actions taken by district authorities.
Furthermore, Handwara constituency boasts 5,686 new and first-time voters, reflecting a palpable enthusiasm among the youth to exercise their democratic rights. ADC Ahmad, impressed by their eagerness, encouraged all eligible voters to cast their ballots on May 20th, urging full participation in the electoral process.
