Around 900 bags of non-permissible fertilizer weighing 180 quintals were seized by the Enforcement Wing of the Department of Agriculture in Kulgam on Friday afternoon.
An official said that 900 bags of non-permissible fertilizer were being transported to Kulgam in a truck.
Jeelani Zargar, an official of the Enforcement Wing, said that they had received information about unauthorized fertilizer being transported to Kulgam and they followed the vehicle.
“The truck carrying the unauthorized fertilizer checked at Laroo Bypass here in Kulgam district at a specific fertilizer shop,” he said.
Farooq Ahmad, Fertilizer Inspector, Kulgam told Rising Kashmir that, on the spot when the dealer was asked to produce requisite documents about the fertilizer but he failed.
“While checking we found 180 quintals of non-permissible fertilizer in it and therefore the quantity was seized along with the vehicle,” he said.
The official said that they will seize the shop as per law and the seized quantity has been dumped in his shop already.
“Moreover, other legal procedures will follow,” he added.
He further added that the department of agriculture’s enforcement wing ensures best fertilizers, and pesticides are sold to the orchardists and farmers through registered outlets in UT.
