Budgam, Feb 09: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said that they foiled a black-marketing attempt by seizing 800 kg of rice meant for government ration depots and arrested the accused persons involved in the commission of crime in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Police officials said that the police party from the Police Post Soibugh at a checkpoint established at Arath Crossing intercepted a load carrier bearing chasis number BBXWRC66797 with three persons on board.
They have been identified as Nisar Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Rashid Lone; Ab Qayoom Bhat, son of Sonaullah Bhat, both residents of Singhpora Pattan; and Ab Majid Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, a resident of Arath Budgam.
“During the search, the police recovered 16 sacks containing 50 kg of rice each. During preliminary questioning, it surfaced that they had bought the rice from a fair shop at Arath, which is run by Gh Nabi Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, a resident of Arath Budgam,” an official said.
He said that all four accused have been arrested, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
A case under FIR No. 41/2024 under relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Budgam, and an investigation has been initiated.
