Jammu, Sept 17: The stage is all set for the first phase of Assembly elections in J&K with 24 seats going to polls on September 18 however the eight Assembly seats of Chenab valley in Jammu region hold the key for the BJP while it has been claiming to form government in J&K.
The two former ministers in the BJP-PDP coalition government, namely Sunil Sharma and Shakti Parihar, are seeking reelection from Chenab Valley.
The BJP has tactically fielded Shagun Parihar as its candidate from Kishtwar Assembly segment to send a message that BJP is committed to wipe out terror-ism. Pertinent to mention here, Shagun’s father and uncle were killed by the terrorists.
Both Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, during their address to the rallies in Chenab Valley had said, “Shagun is not only a candidate but a symbol of strong resolve of BJP to wipe out terrorism”.
Amit Shah had also said, “Each vote to Shagun will be a tribute to her father and her uncle”. The BJP has pushed full might in its campaigning in Chenab Valley with PM Modi addressing one rally at Doda, while Home Minister Amit Shah addressed three back to back rallies at Padder, Kishtwar and Ramban yesterday.
