Jammu, Jan 25: On the auspicious occasion of the 77th Republic Day being celebrated in India, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway, in a unique initiative, has specially illuminated all the railway stations in the division, including Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Srinagar, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City, as well as the world-renowned engineering marvels, the world's highest Chenab Rail Bridge (Wikipedia) and India's first cable-stayed Anji Bridge (Konkan Railway) with tricolor lights. This is the first Republic Day since the formation of the Jammu Division in 2025. This lighting ceremony is dedicated to the progress of the nation and the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued here, for the first time in Jammu Division, on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day, Indian Railways will present the residents of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation with a spectacular lighting spectacle adorned with the colors of the Indian tricolor. The Chenab Bridge, which is taller than the Eiffel Tower, and the Anji Bridge, with their unique engineering, will glow in the colors of the tricolor at night.
In addition to the Chenab and Anji bridges, major railway stations in the Jammu division – Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Srinagar, Banihal, Budgam, Reasi, Pathankot Cantt, Pathankot City, Gurdaspur, Baijnath Paprola, Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, and other railway stations – have been specially decorated with tricolor lighting, giving passengers a feel of Republic Day celebrations.
This lighting system underlines the strength of these bridges, which can withstand temperatures down to -20°C. They can withstand temperatures up to +45°C and are designed to withstand winds of 300 km/h.
The tricolor lights have been activated to mark Republic Day, creating a major attraction for both passengers and locals in the Jammu Division.
Commenting on the beautification of the Jammu Division on Republic Day, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, "The major railway stations in the Jammu Division have been decorated with tricolor lights, which awaken the enthusiasm and zeal for the country in the minds of passengers on Republic Day. The Jammu Division reiterates its commitment to nation-building on this great occasion of Republic Day. The tricolor lights not only enhance the grandeur of these bridges but also showcase the engineering prowess of a self-reliant India, promoting tourism in the region."
