Srinagar, August 23: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday underscored the unifying power of the Hindi language, describing it as “a vibrant symbol of India’s shared identity, pride, and unity.”
Addressing a packed audience at “Hindi Rangmanch – HumariBhasha, HumariPehchaan”, organised by Wadies Hindi ShikshaSamiti and the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, the LG praised Hindi’s role as a thread that weaves together India’s diverse linguistic and cultural landscape.
“In the last 75 years, Hindi has become the language that connects the country and our shared culture,” LG Sinha said. “It is not merely a tool for communication, but a bond of unity and a medium that carries the sentiments of the entire nation.”
He referenced the role of Hindi during India’s freedom struggle, saying the language served as a common vehicle for patriotic expression. “Even in the Constituent Assembly, regions where Hindi was not the native tongue supported it as the official language. That is the strength of Hindi, its reach and its resonance across India.”
The event saw participation from students of four KendriyaVidyalayas in Srinagar who showcased their talents in eight Hindi language competitions and cultural performances.
Calling upon the youth to embrace Hindi without forsaking their mother tongues, LG Sinha stressed the importance of linguistic harmony. “Alongside Hindi, we must take pride in our regional languages like Kashmiri, Dogri, Urdu, Telugu, and others. The multiplicity of languages is a symbol of our unity in diversity,” he said.
He also highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes the use of mother tongue and regional languages as mediums of instruction. “Such reforms are crucial in strengthening cultural roots and fostering national unity,” he added.
The LG urged students to draw inspiration from spiritual and literary figures like Lalleshwari, SantKabir Das, and SantRavidas, whose teachings transcend linguistic and regional boundaries.
On the occasion, students who excelled in Hindi in their Class 10 board examinations were felicitated. LG Sinha applauded the efforts of Wadies Hindi ShikshaSamiti for promoting Hindi and engaging youth through creative initiatives in schools.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor felicitated the students, teachers and artists for their exceptional participation in a campaign launched by Wadies Hindi ShikshaSamiti in the month of June-July this year in four KendriyaVidyalayas to generate interest in Hindi language among students of class 6th to class 10th through various activities.
The event was attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Principal Secretary, Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma; ParamVir Chakra awardee (Honorary Captain) YogendraYadav; Deputy Commissioner KVS Jammu Region, NagendraGoyal; and MD & CEO of J&K Bank, AmitavaChatterjee.
NagendraGoyal highlighted the role of KendriyaVidyalayas in fostering national integration. “KVs are mini-Indias, bringing together students from across the country under one roof and promoting mutual respect through linguistic and cultural exchange,” he said.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Brij Mohan Sharma, who commended the collective efforts to promote linguistic harmony. “Such platforms offer our youth an opportunity to connect with Hindi while respecting India’s incredible linguistic diversity,” he said.
