Srinagar, Mar 10: the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday said that in the Padder-Nagseni Constituency, there are a total of 241 General Line Teacher positions, of which 168 are currently occupied, 73 posts are lying vacant
In response to a question raised by MLA Sunhil Kumar Sharma during the Assembly session, the Minister for School Education stated that directives will be issued to the Project Director of Samagra Shiksha and the Director of School Education in Jammu. These directives will instruct the Chief Education Officer of Kishtwar to conduct a thorough survey to identify areas within the Padder-Nagseni Constituency that lack school facilities. The School Education Department will review the findings of this survey in accordance with established guidelines once the report is submitted.
The Minister remarked, “In Padder-Nagseni Constituency, the total number of General Line Teacher positions is 241, with 168 filled and 73 remaining vacant.”
It is important to note that the recruitment for General Line Teacher positions has been suspended due to the transition of RRETs to Teacher Grade II and III, as mandated by Government Order No. 144-Edu of 2020 dated June 19, 2020. Consequently, no new appointments for General Line Teachers have occurred in over five years, resulting in a shortage of educators in government schools. To address this shortfall, the department is undertaking a rationalization process to identify and deploy teachers to the schools in need.
The Minister further indicated that within the Padder-Nagseni Constituency, out of 81 schools ranging from Middle to Higher Secondary levels, 31 are equipped with Information Communication Technology (ICT) facilities, which include 4 Higher Secondary Schools, 16 High Schools, and 61 Middle Schools. Additionally, 76 schools have internet access.
