70 percent people in Kupwara, Handwara & Langate towns do not fall in property tax category: DC Kupwara

Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Dr.Doifode Sagar Dattatray on Friday assured the people of Kupwara district that the confusion created regarding Property tax is totally baseless and being propagated to mislead the public. He said that about 70 percent people in Kupwara, Handwara and Langate towns do not fall in the property tax category and added that those who fall in the tax category, shall have to pay a small amount, starting from Rs150, that too annually.

 

The Deputy Commissioner was addressing a presser at Kupwara, after holding a joint coordination committee meeting at Administrative Complex, here.

 

The Deputy Commissioner convened a joint meeting of Officers and all stakeholders of Kupwara, Handwara and Langate towns including Presidents of MCs, Ward Members , Bar Association, Civil Society Members and media to clear the confusion created by some social media platforms with regard to implementation of Property Tax.

 

The SSP Kupwara Yougal Manhas, SP Handwara Sheema Nabi, ADC Kupwara Ghulam Nabi Bhat and other concerned were present in the meeting.

 

The participants were briefed by the Deputy Commissioner and other concerned through PowerPoint Presentation and the clear picture regarding Property tax was given out in the meeting.

 

During the discourse of meeting, it was stated that there would no tax on any small house upto 1000 square feet. There would be meagre tax for those people who have houses beyond 1500 square meters. Likewise there would also be a meagre calculation of tax on small business establishment.

 

It was also cleared that the tax amount would be used entirely for local area development in the same ward or area where from it is collected.

 

All the stakeholders present in the meeting also spoke on the occasion and appreciated administration for giving clear information and facts regarding the property tax. They have also assured Deputy Commissioner of full support from the people of all the 3 Municipalities.

 

The Deputy Commissioner also had a press conference in this regard and assured people that the confusion created regarding Property tax is baseless and being propagated to mislead the people.

 

Deputy Commissioner cleared that about 70 percent people in Kupwara, Handwara and Langate towns do not fall in the property tax category. He added those who fall in the tax, shall have to pay a small amount, starting from 150, that too per annum.
