Anantnag, July 7 : In a heart-wrenching incident, two pilgrims met an untimely end during the annual Yatra pilgrimage.
The deceased persons have been identified as Valand Rajindera Kumar Mohan
Lal, aged 59, and Naveen Kumar, aged 68.
Valand Rajindera Kumar Mohanlal, son of Valand Mohanlal and resident of Valand Mohanlal 165 Vemali, tragically passed away on Thursday before commencing his spiritual journey to the holy cave. TIn another grievous turn of events, Naveen Kumar, son of Jamadaran Singh and hailing from Warno 11, Mohi Ud Din Nagar, Bihar, breathed his last on Friday morning after successfully completing his visit to the sacred cave.
Local police officials have officially confirmed the deaths of Valand Rajinderakumar Mohanlal and Naveen Kumar. The mortal remains of the deceased have been sent to the Baltal Base camp hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of their untimely demise.
Meanwhile, six Amarnath yatris died in the past two days, taking the toll in this year’s pilgrimage to nine, officials said on Friday.
The authorities did not specify the details, but cardiac arrest triggered by low oxygen concentration at high altitudes is one of the more common causes of fatalities among Amarnath pilgrims and security forces posted there on duty. So far, nine yatra-related deaths have taken place and 25 persons have been injured, the officials said. They said the toll includes eight yatris and an ITBP personnel. (Inputs from PTI)
