Srinagar, June 01: Continuing its efforts to dismantle the operating terror networks and narco-terror in the valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Handwara have intensified their campaign against terrorist handlers declared as proclaimed offenders by the court of law.
The officials revealed that the police have attached land assets totaling approximately 3.5 kanals owned by these offenders in the Handwara area.
A police officer said that so far four terrorist handlers, wanted in various terror activities and deemed absconders by the court, have had their properties identified and attached by the authorities.
“This action is a part of the ongoing efforts to curb terrorism in the region. Similar measures are being pursued against 51 other terrorist handlers declared as proclaimed offenders by the court, all of whom are involved in terror-related cases in Handwara,” he said.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate of Handwara has been instructed to mark red entries in the revenue records against these handlers, preventing the liquidation of their assets and restricting their utility to the terror ecosystem.
In a parallel crackdown, the police in Handwara have taken strict actions against individuals involved in drug peddling and narcotics supply. Properties worth approximately Rs 73,52,831, acquired through illegal activities by drug peddlers, have been attached this year.
A police official stated that during investigations, whenever it was discovered that drug peddlers had built assets from the illegal narcotics trade, legal actions were initiated to attach these properties.
In ten such cases registered against four known drug peddlers in Handwara, properties have been attached as part of the investigation.
He said to further deter these activities, preventive detention under the provisions of PIT NDPS has been invoked against eight individuals this year, all of whom have a history of involvement in the drug trade and narcotics dealings.
