Baramulla, Dec 01: A 50-year-old man, Reyaz Ahmed Mir, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Zaloora village of north Kashmir’s Sopore on Friday afternoon.
While the family initially reported him missing, his lifeless body was later found near his house, raising concerns and suspicions among locals and relatives.
According to a police officer, the family filed a missing report on Friday morning after Reyaz went out of his house and couldn’t be traced.
A subsequent search led to the discovery of his body near his residence in a sewage trench. The body was then taken to the Sub District Hospital Sopore for necessary medical procedures before being handed over to the family for last rites.
However, the relatives of Mir, a father of four children, including three daughters and a son, disputed the possibility of suicide.
Despite acknowledging family tensions and altercations with his wife, the relatives insisted that Reyaz would go to any extent for the safety and concerns of his children.
They raised concerns about visible marks on his neck and alleged an attack by his in-laws a few days prior, pointing to family issues.
The locals of Zaloora called for a thorough investigation into what they suspected to be a murder. They demanded those involved be held accountable.
The relatives and neighbours have sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and SSP Sopore, and demanded strict action against those involved.
Meanwhile, police confirmed the registration of a case.
SSP Sopore said the murder case has been resolved and the details will be shared tomorrow (Saturday).
