Srinagar, Sept 28: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy Wednesday informed that 50 terrorists including 10 foreigners were killed since past one year in Kulgam and stated that clean operations will continue until peace is achieved.
Addressing a joint press conference of Police, Army, and Police in Kulgam, SSP Chakravarthy said during the past 48 hours, three JeM terrorists were neutralized in two anti-terror operations. Among the three, one was from Pakistan while the other two were locals, he said.
SSP Chakravarthy said from the last few days, they were receiving inputs of the movements of these terrorists and as soon as they (terrorists) were traced, police along with the Army and the CRPF reached the area and launched the operation against them,” he said.
SSP said protecting civilians is their utmost priority during the operations.
During Monday’s operation, foreign terrorists lobbed grenades when forces were rescuing civilians, which caused some injuries to civilians and to soldier.
“Both civilians and Army solider were shifted to Army hospital Srinagar, where their condition is stable and out of danger,” he said.
“In the past one year, we eliminated nearly 50 terrorists, of these terrorists 10 were foreigners,” the SSP said.
He said the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror group is Pakistan based with the sole intention of recruiting and spoiling the minds of local youth. Their aim is to spread terror in the region,” he said.
SSP Chakravarthy said that security forces are working hard to ensure peace in the area.
“We will ensure clean operations with focused intelligence and prevent locals from joining the militancy. Security forces will soon eliminate the rest of the militants to ensure peace in the area,” he added.
He said during the operations, they have recovered incriminating materials, including arms & ammunition recovered.
SSP Chakravarthy said acting on specific information generated by Police regarding the presence of terrorists in Ahwatoo area of Kulgam, a joint cordon & search operation was launched by Police, Army (34RR), and CRPF (18Bn).
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said.
Three terrorists were killed in twin operations and their bodies were retrieved from the site of the encounter. They have been identified as Abu Hurairah (FT), Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora, and Mohammad Asif Wani of Gopalpora, Kulgam.
