5 notorious drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam

Kulgam, Nov 05: Police on Saturday detained five notorious drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988 which allows preventive detention for a period of one year without bail.
A police official identified the detained persons as Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Ahmadabad, DH Pora; Tariq Ahmad Lone of Tungdunoo Yaripora; Sajad Ahmad Baghat of Kokergund, Yaripora; Barkatullah Mir of Bachroo Kulgam and Aijaz Ahmad Ganie of Gadihama, Kulgam.
The individuals involved were listed in the PIT NDPS Act under orders issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, he said, adding that the arrested persons have been lodged in district jail Baderwah and district jail Rajouri.
The official said the police aim to prevent the recycling of those arrested in illicit trafficking in the NDPS. He said several notorious drug offenders have been booked in various NDPS cases this year.
“We are committed to the war against drug menace and urge people to cooperate with police to eradicate social evils including drug abuse,” police said. “We have to save our next generation from this abuse and make this society a better place to live in.”
