Baramulla, August 04: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday booked five most wanted and notorious drug smugglers from various parts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and booked them under PIT-NDPS Act.
A police official said that acting tough against drug peddlers and to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Baramulla Police booked notorious drug smugglers under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.
The police identified the drug smugglers as Gulzar Ahmad Ganai son of Late Habibullah Ganai, a resident of Chanihama Rafiabad Baramulla, Ghulam Mohi u din Dar son of Abdul Ahad, a resident of Ladoora Rafiabad Baramulla, Waheed Sultan Ganai alais Raj Don son of Mohd Sultan, a resident of Shirpora Pattan, Ajaz Ahmad Gojri alais Ajaz Mughal son of Noor u din Gojri, a resident of Mallora Pattan and Atiqullah Lone son of Mohd Akbar Lone, a resident of Tujjar Sharif Sopore.
Police said that the drug smugglers were booked under *PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent Authority.
Baramulla police said that the booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu.
Police said that many cases are registered against these drug smugglers and were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Rafiabad, Ladoora, Chakloo, Binner, Janbazpora, Shirpora Pattan, Malpora Pattan and other areas of district Baramulla.
“Despite their involvement in many FIR’s they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse by supplying drugs to local youth,” police officials said.
Officials said that Baramulla Police’s consistent efforts in combating drug peddlers should provide reassurance to the community that they are working diligently to maintain a drug-free society.
General public of Baramulla appreciated the role of police for their action against drug peddlers.
