Srinagar, Sept 27: As many as 48845 heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) including 30786 trucks carrying apples moved from NH 44 (Srinagar-Jammu highway) to other parts of the country from september 01, officials said Tuesday.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police, all stranded vehicles at Qazigund have been cleared. “As per the data collected at toll plaza Qazigund, 48845 trucks including 30786 apple carrying moved from Qazigund to other parts of country via NH 44 since September 1,” reads a statement issued by the Traffic Police today
Giving the details of the convoy, the officials said between 15th September to 26th September, 18285 trucks carrying apples moved to other parts of the country.

Giving break up of the trucks moved from the beginning of the month, the officials said, “On 2nd September 831 apple trucks moved, on 4th September 773 trucks moved, on 6th September 1057 trucks of apples moved, on 8th September 1732 apple trucks moved, on 10th September 2683 apple trucks moved, on 12th September 2699 apple trucks moved, on 14th September 2712 trucks moved.”

Clarifying on the delay in the movement of HMVs, the traffic police said due to constraints of NH-44, which is a single lane at 12-14 stretches between Nashri and Banihal, the movement of HMVs is allowed on alternate days only.

Besides, the movement of traffic is subject to stoppage due to shooting stones at various locations like Cafeteria Morh- Mehar, Sher Bibi etc around Ramban town.

“In particular, the Mahar Passi which became active from July 18th led to the stoppage of the traffic several times during the day on account of shooting stones which makes it dangerous for traffic to pass,” reads the police statement.

The traffic police said the shooting stones at Mahar Passi led to the travel time loss of 21 hours and 9 minutes.

“Also in the last four days 34 hours of time was lost due to repair work and shooting stones in four days,” it further said.
