Srinagar, Sep 27: Emphasizing upon the meticulous efforts made by the security forces to wipe out terrorism from J&K UT, a top official of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday revealed that security forces have gunned down 47 terrorists and arrested 204 terrorist associates in Kashmir till September 26 this year so far.
Revealing more details, the official said that out of 47 terrorists killed, nine were local terrorists, while the remaining 38 were foreign terrorists. This tally includes incidents from January 1 to January 26 of this year,” he said.
The officer said that in 2022, a total of 187 terrorists were neutralized in the region. Out of these, 130 were local terrorists, and 57 were foreign terrorists.
“Data indicates that between January 1 and September 26 this year, 204 terrorists were apprehended in Jammu and Kashmir,” the official said.
“The data also provides insight into the current terrorist activity in the region, with 111 terrorists still active, comprising 40 local terrorists and 71 foreign terrorists,” he said.
Comparatively, last year saw 137 terrorists actively operating in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.
“The situation in Jammu and Kashmir is largely peaceful and there has been a decline in law and order incidents,” he said.
Regarding recruitment in terror ranks, the official said recruitment into terror ranks declined this year compared to last year, with an improvement in the overall situation.
The efforts of Police and security forces are aimed at weaning the youth away from terrorism. Steps are also being taken to identify and counsel vulnerable youth, he said.
The official said Police along with security forces are working hard to prevent local youth from joining terror ranks. Like earlier, Police are ready to facilitate surrender (even during the live encounter). “We are hopeful for more success in the future,” he said.
“We look forward to continuing operations and we won’t allow anyone to disturb the peace,” the official said, adding that  they are also tracking OGWs and hybrid terrorists.
Following zero infiltration along borders for the past three years, we were able to focus on curbing terrorist recruitment and it is being tactically controlled, the officer said.
“Some terrorist modules are active to sustain the terrorism in Kashmir as the majority of outfits have been wiped out from the region. They are now issuing threats to keep the fear alive which is being done at the behest of neighboring country” he said.
