Budgam, April 28: Residents of Soibugh zone in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have raised concerns over inadequate educational infrastructure, highlighting that 40 government schools in the area are currently operating out of rented buildings, affecting the quality of learning and overall functioning of these institutions.
Official data reveals that out of 917 government schools in Budgam district, around 148 are functioning from rented buildings. In the Sobiugh educational zone alone, 40 out of 97 government schools are still operating without their own buildings.
The locals said that the lack of proper classrooms, insufficient space, and absence of essential amenities are negatively impacting students’ academic performance.
“The government claims to provide quality education in its schools, but in Soibugh zone, many institutions do not even have their own buildings. Students are forced to study in cramped and poorly equipped rented accommodations,” Gulzar Ahmad,a resident from Soibugh said.
They urged the authorities to identify suitable land and expedite the construction of permanent school buildings to ensure better learning conditions for students.
Meanwhile, in the Khansahib educational zone, out of 109 government schools, 18 are operating from rented accommodations. Officials said that construction work on seven school buildings in the zone has already been sanctioned and is currently underway.
Residents have appealed to the administration to take similar steps in the Soibugh zone and address the issue on priority to prevent further disruption to students’ education.
