4-yr-old girl among 6 dead as vehicle falls into gorge in Doda

Doda, Apr 13 :At least sixpersons, including a 4-year old girl and a woman, lost their lives while four others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred in the Khanpura area of Phagsoo, Thathri sub-division, Doda district, on Saturday evening.
As per reports, the accident occurred around 7:15 pm when a Maruti Suzuki Eco vehicle traveling from Thathri to KarhawaPhagsoo met with an accident at Khanpura, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Mukhtiyar Ahmed (28), son of Abdul Gani, from Bandoga; a 4-year-old girl, daughter of Muhammad Amir; Riyaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Gani, from Phagsoo; Ireena Begum, wife of Saddam Hussain, from Ghunti; and Muhammad Rafi, son of Abdul Rehman, from Phagsoo.
The injured, who were subsequently referred for specialized treatment at Government Medical College (GMC),Doda, include Muhammad Amir (28), son of Muhammad Shafi, from Phagsoo; a 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl; and Sufiyan Sheikh (24), son of Bashir Ahmed, from Behndoga. Additionally, Saima Begum, wife of Muhammad Amir, sustained injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that locals promptly responded to the accident, initiating rescue operations and transporting the injured to the sub-district hospital in Thathri. Critically wounded patients were then shifted to GMC Doda for further medical treatment.
“Among the deceased were mainly the minors,” SSP Doda, Javed Mir told Rising Kashmir, adding, “the critically injured have been undergoing treatment at GMC Doda”.
The incident underscores the concerning prevalence of accidents in Doda district, with numerous lives lost due to various factors such as poor road conditions, reckless driving, and inadequate road safety measures.

 

LG grieves over Doda accident
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Doda.In a condolence message, the Lt Governor said:
“I am deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of lives and injuries resulting from the unfortunate road accident at Phagsoo, Doda today. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. I have issued instructions to District Administration to provide all necessary assistance, as provided in rule, to the affected persons”.
