Kulgam, Mar 13: Authorities on Wednesday sealed four shops and realised a fine of 10,000 rupees from erring shopkeepers during a market checking drive.
An official said that a team led by Tehsildar Kulgam, which comprises Food Safety, Legal Metrology, Municipality, Police, and Revenue, conducted a market checking drive.
Bilal Ahmad, Tehsildar Kulgam, told Rising Kashmir that market checking is a continuous drive and they have intensified the drive during this month of Ramadhaan. He said the drive aimed to ensure quality products at feasible rates to the shoppers in Kulgam and to avoid profiteering.
“As many as four shops found violating the Commodities Act have been sealed on the spot, and an amount of Rs 10,000 was realised from other erring shopkeepers during the market checking drive,” Tehsildar said.
Tehsildar said 40 kilograms of poor-quality fruits and vegetables were destroyed as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). “The establishments have been sensitised to abide by the norms during the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
Bashir said there are clear-cut directions from Deputy Commissioner Kulgam in this regard Shopkeepers violating the Commodities Act will be penalised, and serious offenders will be sealed, he warned.
Tehsildar said people can dial 9103424365 for any complaint or grievance, which is operational 24/7.
