Srinagar, June 23: A joint party of security forces on Friday killed four foreign terrorists and foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
As per police officials, during the intervening night of 22/23 June, the joint alert party of police & Army detected suspicious movement in general area of Kala Jungle along the LoC in Machil Sector. Later all 4 terrorists were killed in the operation.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar lauded the exceptional bravery, professionalism, and strategic planning exhibited by the joint team of Army & Police during the operation.
“Their coordinated efforts, meticulous execution, and swift response resulted in killing of four unidentified terrorists, effectively averting a potential threat to the region’s safety & security and saving the future of youth from drug abuse,” he said.
ADGP Kumar also acknowledged the relentless dedication of the joint forces, in safeguarding the nation against terrorism. This successful operation is a big blow to the narco-funding and other terror plans of the terrorists, he said.
Briefing about the details, the police officer said that in a joint operation launched by Army (21 Mahar) and Kupwara Police, an infiltration bid by a group of terrorists was successfully foiled by the joint team in Kala Jungle area of Machil Sector in Kupwara district.
In this swift and coordinated operation, four (04) unidentified terrorists were neutralized, when their movement was observed along LoC thereby ensuring the safety and security of the region.
“During the intervening night of 22/23 June, SF’s detected suspicious movement in the general area of Kala Jungle in Machil Sector. The joint team laid multiple checkpoints and tracking of the terrorist movement was carried out,” he said.
The official said at around 0430 hours, the movement of terrorists was observed crossing the LOC. Employing meticulous tactics, the terrorists were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint teams. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of four (04) heavily armed unidentified terrorists.
“The joint party demonstrated exceptional professionalism, courage, and strategic planning during the operation,” he said.
Regarding identification, the police officer said the identification and affiliation of the killed terrorists is being ascertained.
“Arms & ammunition including 09 AK Series Rifles, 14 AK Magazines, 288 rounds of Assorted Ammunition (AK and Pistol), 04 Hand Grenades, 03 Pistols, 05 Pistols Magazines and 55 Suspected Narco Packets & other incriminating materials have been recovered from the site of encounter,” he said.
The police official said slain terrorists were found to be heavily armed, equipped with sophisticated weaponry & narcotics which indicates their malicious intent to carry out disruptive activities aimed at causing harm to innocent civilians.
“However, due to the timely and effective response by Army & Police, their plans were foiled, and a significant threat to peace and stability in the area was neutralized,” he said.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. An extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.
The General Officer Commanding, Vajra Division, Maj Gen Girish Kalia, in a press conference post-operation, said that there is a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
However, in the recent past, they (forces) have been getting a large number of intelligence inputs of likely infiltration from across the LoC.
Earlier on 13th June, two foreign terrorists were killed after SF’s foiled a major infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
So far, 11 terrorists have been neutralized in the current month by the joint teams of the Army & Police in three separate encounters along the LOC.
