Jammu, Nov 08: At least four people are feared dead after the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road at Shibnote-Karar and fell into Chenab River in Doda district on Tuesday evening.

DC Doda Vishesh Pal Mahajan told Rising Kashmir that a Swift car, on its way to Kishtwar from Doda, rolled down the road near Shibnot-Karara area in between Prem Nagar and Thathri and fell into Chenab River.

“So far we have no idea about the exact number of the people travelling in the car but reportedly their number was between three to four people,” he said.

Soon after the accident, DC Doda added that a police team led by SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom, reached the spot and started a rescue operation with the help of SDRF and Army.

“So far our teams have not traced any victim,” he said.

Union Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Dr Jitendra Singh has also spoken to DC Doda and asked the latter to make every possible effort to trace the victims.

Dr. Jitendra Singh wrote on Twitter: “Just now spoke to DC #Doda, Sh Vishesh Paul Mahajan. A private car carrying four persons has accidentally plunged deep into river Chenab at Shibnot, midway between Thathri and Prem Nagar. Every possible effort is being made to trace the victims. I am in constant touch. #JammuAndKashmir (sic)”.

As per reports, DAP Chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is touring various areas of Doda and Kishtwar, was seen along with his supporters at the accident spot.
